Saving Seeds From Cosmos | A Simple Guide

Cosmos are one of my favourite flowers — bright, easy to grow, and perfect for pollinators. Saving seeds from your cosmos not only lets you enjoy them next year, but it also helps preserve your favourite varieties. This variety pictured above is Bipanthus, Striped Pink.
What You’ll Need
Small paper envelopes/ Seed packets
Scissors
Labels and pen
Basket or container for collecting seeds
Step By Step Instructions
Step 1: Let the flowers dry on the plant
Wait until the petals have fallen and the seed heads turn brown.
Step 2: Collect the seed heads
Cut the dry seed heads and place them in a container.
Step 3: Extract the seeds
Gently crumble the seed heads to release the seeds.
Step 4: Store the seeds
Put the seeds in labeled envelopes or jars, in a cool, dry place until next planting season.
Tips
- Only save seeds from healthy plants!
- Dry thoroughly to prevent mould.
- Share with friends as gifts or keep for your own garden next year.
